High Performance Concrete with GGBS and ROBO Sand

Concrete is a composite cloth crafted from cement, nice aggregates, coarse aggregates, and water.. It serves as the backbone of modern infrastructure, being extensively used in the construction of buildings, industrial facilities, bridges, and highways. The growing demand for durable structures has resulted in the large-scale consumption of concrete.

High Performance Concrete (HPC) refers to concrete designed to achieve specific performance and durability requirements that cannot always be met by traditional materials and conventional mixing methods. To meet these requirements, admixtures and alternative raw materials are often introduced to enhance the quality and strength of concrete.

Since the cost of conventional raw materials is high and their availability is limited, researchers have been exploring economical and sustainable substitutes. One such approach involves the partial replacement of cement with Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) and replacing natural river sand with ROBO sand (crusher dust).

In this study, M30 grade concrete was examined with these substitutions. Test samples, including cubes and cylinders, were cast and evaluated for compressive strength and tensile strength. The results demonstrated that using GGBS and ROBO sand significantly improved the strength properties of the concrete when compared to conventional mixes, highlighting their potential for sustainable construction practices.
